The Great (Fake) Child-Sex-Trafficking Epidemic :crazy2:
The truth is that child-sex-trafficking is extremely rare and that the average age of entry is seventeen. In other words, a few older teens are involved, mostly voluntarily, and it's really just under-aged prostitution and by under-aged I mean just barely under-aged, actually an age which would be completely legal in some jurisdictions! Just the same people obsess over the mostly imaginary problem. I had no idea how over-blown the moral panic had become, but it's apparently alive and well and fueling all sorts of dysfunctional beliefs based on fantasies of a worldwide conspiracy involving all sorts of rich and famous people.... or maybe one of your neighbors!
:roll2:
Anxiety about the nation’s children, which is at a steady simmer in the best of times, boiled over in the summer of 2020, when the digital soldiers of QAnon occupied the otherwise innocuous hashtag #SaveTheChildren. Around the same time, major social-media platforms had started blocking overt QAnon accounts and hashtags. From their new beachhead, the digital soldiers were able to disseminate a cascade of false information about child trafficking on Instagram and Facebook: Children were being trafficked on the hospital ship USNS Comfort, then docked in New York City, and through tunnels underneath Central Park.

QAnon Continues To Gain Believers :smack:
Libtard extremists believe in fake systemic racism and conservatard extremists believe in child sex trafficking. Most extremists are not very smart. Some of their leaders are reasonably intelligent, but they use their intelligence to take advantage of and manipulate their stupid followers instead of shedding light on the situation. There are other smaller groups of extremists who believe lots of stupid things, but the one thing they all have in common is a lack of brain power!
George Carlin wrote:Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Tucker: We are at war with Russia
Most of this focuses on Ukraine, but he spends some time on the topic of moral panics and he makes some good points in so doing.

wildrose: I appreciate you posting that video. Every minute of that video was worth watching. Tucker Carlson has a way of putting things into perspective and ultimately the actions of Biden and his son in Ukraine are treasonous and that's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned!

Why the likelihood of rainbow fentanyl in Halloween candy is low
This type of urban legend has been debunked many times, but nevertheless it comes up every year. Most recently Dr. Phil suggested that there was a risk of children bringing home candy laced with fentanyl after trick-or-treating. Here's the truth about poisoned candy myths:
No child has ever been killed by eating a Halloween candy from a stranger.

wildrose: Anything that Dr. Phil has to say is pretty much worthless. The guy is an idiot! Okay, so maybe like a broken clock, he might be coincidentally correct on some things every now and then, but most of the time anything he says can be pretty much counted on to be wrong!

wildrose: It's true that no child has been killed as a result of Halloween candy they got from a stranger, but there are cases where children have been killed after ingesting Halloween candy given to them by their parents. In fact, there are several such cases. In one of those cases the parents had taken out life insurance policies on the children a few months before Halloween. Apparently they believed in the poisoned candy myth and thought they'd get away with attributing their children's deaths to poisoned candy from strangers. They found out the hard way that that urban legend is nothing more than a scary story shared by airheads too dumb to know that the myth had been debunked.

Mass Hysteria Throughout History
Moral panics and mass hysteria are very closely related and sometimes both terms apply at the same time.

Moral panics and short form videos
Not the best example, but not a bad example either.
