There are parts of the country that have higher concentrations of religious nutjobs than others. California is surprisingly low when it comes to that kind of nutjob, but we have plenty of nutjobs of other kinds. The states with the highest concentration of nutjobs of the religious kind are Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennesee, but in general the Midwest and Southeast are prime religious nutjob territory.

Saddleback Church Youth Volunteer Suspected Of Lewd Conduct With 14-Year-Old Boys
Usually churches work really hard to hide these types of situations and talk the parents of the involved kids into working it out through prayer and not taking the legal route. It's pretty rare for these types of situations involving religious institutions to get reported to legal authorities. That said, who knows if this is just another false accusation or not?!!

Saddleback Church Members React To Arrest Of Youth Pastor For Alleged Lewd Acts With Teens
Not a lot of detail on this one and so it's hard to say if it's a believable accusation or just a false accusation. The important thing to keep in mind is that most sexual abuse (80-85%) occurs in the home and is perpetrated by people related to the abused kids or by a step parent or boy/girl friend of a parent. The second largest category of sexual abuse takes place in a religious setting, next there are sports and recreational settings, and then there are school settings (especially live away school settings). The news media may hype certain types of situations for a few months giving the public a false sense of what settings are the most likely to lead to sexual entanglements involving children. It's like a flavor of the month thing when it comes to news and reporting of these types of incidents.

Flavor of the month is right! The public has such a warped perspective on who does what that most people are leary of the wrong things. We can all thank the news media for that! As for church organizations and sex with children, that's been an ongoing issue and next to family settings is certainly the most prevalent, but stats on this kind of thing can be very misleading and the so-called experts usually don't know much at all.

Just to follow up on the George Carlin post from a while ago, I suggest that everyone visit and look up Why_religion_is_bullshit. It's a fun list of basic logical reasons for rejecting religion. Not that I'm anti-religion, but I do think everyone should think for themselves and not believe everything they are told to believe especially when told what to believe by nutjobs of any kind.
