Desert Getaways

Where Hollywood's cowboys unwound :sun:
This looks like a neat place to spend a weekend, but I'm sure it's expensive. There are a lot of places in the desert that are fun to visit. Some are free and some are moderately priced. Share your favorite spots or info about interesting spots in this thread!

China Ranch Date Farm
This place makes the best date shakes you'll ever taste! If you find yourself near Tecopa, this place is worth the stop. They've got a museum, a gift shop, and tons of dates! You can even purchase date trees to plant in your yard.
:poop: + = DANCING DATE
When traveling through the Death Valley area consider visiting beautiful China Ranch, near Tecopa California. China Ranch is a family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert near Southern Death Valley. Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream, date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the desert has to offer.

Panamint Springs Resort
Besides gas and a convenience store, there's a restaurant, camp, RV services, lodging, and proximity to lots of neat places! They even have a public wireless network that's available for free (I bet it's kind of slow though).
Marvelous views of distant sand dunes and the soaring 11,000 foot high Panamint Mountains complete the setting for leisure dining and relaxation. The resort is located at the western end of Death Valley National Park.

Furnace Creek Ranch
If you happen to have money to throw away on lodging then you can stay at the Inn at Furnace Creek. It's about $350 a night for one person depending on when you stay. Even the "family friendly" Death Valley Furnace Creek Ranch hotel is pretty darn expensive!
The Furnace Creek Resort is situated in a lush oasis surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park, California - just 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada and 275 miles northeast of Los Angeles, California. This is one resort with two hotels - the historic, 4-diamond, 66 room Inn at Furnace Creek and the more family oriented 224 room Ranch at Furnace Creek.

Silver Valley Sun Club :sun:
Great place to get a full body tan! It's at Newberry Springs, near Barstow. BTW, they say it's not a nudist colony, it's a nudist camp or clothing-optional camp!

Inside Suzanne Somers' desert oasis
Too bad this one is a private desert getaway! But it's a neat looking place one way or the other.
A private cable car takes you up a steep hill to this 73-acre Palm Springs, Calif., estate on the market for $14.5 million.

Hotel Farm Trip
Okay, so this one isn't in the desert or even on the western side of the country, but it's a great idea if you're even spending time in the Atlanta area!

$3 million 'villain's lair' in the desert
This is a private residence, but it's a great desert getaway location for the owners!

Not the usual desert getaway, but it'll do. Although it could use some shade!
