camel: I've heard that some people actually make some money cabin sitting. They basically stay in a cabin (Kopper King, Minietta, Briggs) for people who want to use it on a particular weekend. Since cabins are first come, first serve it's not possible to guarantee availability, but a cabin sitter helps. Of course, it's necessary to have a friend or someone who will do it for money and the problem is that others have the same idea, especially when it comes to Briggs.

Hopefully no drunk redneck decides to put on a fireworks show at the cabin tonight and burn it to the ground as a result. A lot of the people I've seen go up that way aren't the types to be terribly careful when it comes to that sort of thing. Just sayin...

Drone view of Stone Cabin and Briggs Cabin in the Panamint section of Death Valley
As you can see it sometimes gets a bit crowded up there.
Would you walk a mile for me?

Crowded? Maybe if you hit it at the wrong time, but every time I've passed by the cabins they've been deserted. I have literally never seen anyone other than members of the party I'm with at the cabins. Apparently we have very good timing because I hate crowds!
