BOARD MEETING REPORT
The meeting got started twenty-seven minutes late with as many as fourteen people online waiting for the meeting to start. When the meeting finally began there was no audio. After a bit there was audio briefly and then the last words I heard before the video ended were "Oh crap!"

A few minutes later a new video was initiated. It didn't show up for me until after the board member comments.

1) TTA Report - Welcomed perspective superintendent.
2) Principal - Updated board on return of equipment loaned out to students including Chromebooks and HotSpots.
3) Maintenance Report - Updated board on earthquakes repairs. Also informed them that a new inspection will be required following the 5.5M quake which occurred last night. (Any earthquake over 5.0 triggers a required facilities inspection.)
4) Graduation Updates - Still hoping to hold HS graduation July 31st in the HS gymnasium. Also talked about upcoming LCAP and associated deadlines. Also talked a little about summer school which will be held online. Teachers to be hired for summer school at next board meeting.
5) Public Comment - Expressed concerns about hiring new superintendent. The costs under current circumstances seem excessive.
6) Hiring New Superintendent - Passed 5-0. Board president listed many qualifications of new superintendent which included that he had served as a principal for twelve years. The new superintendent then talked a little bit, introducing himself and promising that he would work hard to have a positive impact on the district. Family members in attendance also introduced themselves briefly.

Board Meeting June 4th 2020
Here's the meeting video. The new superintendent seems like a nice guy. I'm not too impressed by a PhD in education since of all the PhDs out there a PhD in education is about the most worthless. It's more like a participation award than an actual achievement. Also education programs tend to be ideological factories replicating clones who adhere to a narrow orthodoxy rather than programs which encourage academic and intellectual integrity. The fact that he also holds two Master's Degrees in education in addition to the PhD makes it seem like he's more of an ideological choirboy than someone with a solid academic background and so I advise blackturtle.us to keep a close watch on this guy. I say all this as a retired teacher who is all too aware of the political agendas which have infected our public education system. (Naturally one should not judge a book by its cover or by the liner notes, but it's always best to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst, in any case.)

How liberals are slowly killing colleges
Universities have become left-wing echo chambers. Some majors are worse than others. People wishing to advocate liberal ideologies tend to gravitate towards majors where they think they can have a social impact and it's no surprise that education is one of those majors. As a result Departments of Education have become "think tanks" where advocates discuss how to push their agenda without much, if any, academic integrity. Studies produced by these departments are more like propaganda than actual academic studies. If a study produces results which do not support the agenda and the narrative, then it never sees the light of day. Intellectual integrity is irrelevant. All that matters is pushing the agenda and advocating for change (but a very ideologically specific kind of change).

That's exactly right and if another stream had not started it would have seemed that rioters had shut down the board meeting!
In fact, you can watch this video and nothing happens until 28:30 and then at around 30:20 someone starts talking and then the last words are "Oh, crap!" The video then freezes and that's it. Not sure if they will delete the video or not, but that's what happens.

It used to be that a PhD actually meant something, but nowadays things have devolved to the point where it's not much more than a little badge indicating that you kissed ass and agreed with the professors. It's worse in soft subject areas than in hard subject areas, but it pervades the entire educational system. Departments of Education attract ideological advocacy types, but any major that ends with the word STUDIES is even worse: Women's Studies, Ethnic Studies, Queer Studies, Religious Studies, etc.

First Came The Earthquakes, Then Coronavirus: Trona High School Seniors Still Hope To Have Traditional Graduation Ceremony
It was a rough year for local schools in Ridgecrest and Trona. Things were a little tougher in Trona since the facilities had deteriorated so much before the earthquake and the earthquake forced the closure of the old high school.
“The high school was deemed unsafe because of the earthquakes,” Joseph Wolf, Trona principal, said. “And all the students at the high school had to merge into the elementary facilities.” But despite the constant changes, Wolf said his students continued to meet the challenge, which is why he and the parents are still hoping to hold a traditional graduation ceremony for the graduating class of 18 after such a trying year. “You know, they can experience that feeling of walking, hearing their name and getting their diploma,” Wolf said. The graduation has been tentatively scheduled for July 31, in hopes that they will be allowed to hold an in-person ceremony by then.

ergot: True. Those are some stupid college majors, but did you read the article about the new superintendent? One of his job titles was Assistant Superintendent, Whole Child Education. What kind of BS job title is that? Is there a school somewhere where they attempt to educate pieces of children? "Whole Child Education" sounds like some kind of new age, libtard, special snowflake, vegan, woke SJW, soyboy cuck terminology to me!
Would you walk a mile for me?
