THROWING THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER: That's about right. It's true that the lake fieldtrip is a big attractions, but there's more to the event than digging around on the lake for some salt crystals of questionable value.

Searles Valley Minerals slowly recovering from earthquakes
The chemical plant is working hard to get back to the business of producing "boric acid, sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate, several specialty forms of borax, and salt." Just to provide some idea of how important the plant is to the local economy:
Searles Valley Minerals employs more than 700 people. Of those, more than 500 live in Ridgecrest and 200 in Searles Valley communities of Argus, Trona and Pioneer Point. As such, it is one of the largest employers in the valley outside of NAWS China Lake and its tenant commands.

Fortunately for employees:
no layoffs took place and no one was required to tap into vacation or leave time. “During the earthquake recovery period, employees were paid their full salary and benefits while they were off work,” he said. “Several of them were at home for several weeks before we could get them back to work. The owners knew it was the right thing to do and said we’re absolutely going to pay everyone no matter what.”

Christmas evening in Trona, California
I'd hate to live near these people. This kind of event can be annoying as hell and 300 people? You've gotta be kidding me! The justification is that it was for a good cause, but we'd all be better off if the money that went to pay for the electricity for the lights and hot cocoa, etc. was just directly donated.
This year’s fundraiser brought in nearly $2,000 for the center and drew about 300 residents, which was a little smaller than the previous year, Benadom said by phone Monday, Dec. 16.

Trump Supporters and BLM Supporters Demonstrate in Ridgecrest
It's good to see some Trump supporters with backbone standing up for what is right and showing pride in the USA. It's sad that there are still delusional idiots who fail to recognize that Black Lives Matter is a terrorist organization.
At Freedom Park a handful of demonstrators stood in a row with American Flags and (in one case) a flag supporting President Donald Trump’s re-election. Asked by the Daily Independent, several denied they were mounting a counter-protest but said they were demonstrating in support of law enforcement and Trump. The two groups wound up in a virtual face-off. The group with flags, moving in a line, slowly inched their way toward the gazebo. George Floyd March participants took notice and formed another line facing them.

Police report graffiti across Ridgecrest, seek culprits
I hadn't heard of ACAB before. Not in any news videos, not talking to people I know, and not in print.
The Ridgecrest Police Department is asking for information regarding multiple graffiti incidents that occurred on Saturday night. The graffiti was found in areas throughout Ridgecrest, including Leroy Jackson Park and the Kerr McGee Center. “Black lives matters” and “ACAB,” short for “all cops are bastards,” were among the taggings.

Talk about over-generalizing! Keep in mind the root issue in racism is over-generalizing. Seems kind of hypocritical to claim that ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS (ACAB) if you are a member of the "anti-racism" crowd. In every barrel of apples there will be some bad ones. That's life. Only in a fantasy world is everything perfect all the time.

Police seek help in search for missing person, Moises Horta
The guy has been gone for five to six weeks and there's no indication where he went. Sounds like a hopeless situation.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Moises Horta Sr. contacted the Sheriff’s Department to report his 28-year-old son Moises Horta has not been seen in 5-6 weeks. Sheriff’s officials said Horta is a transient residing in the town of Trona. Horta has no telephone or motor vehicle and is known to keep to himself with a few friends.

Cook’s SAFE Act bolsters school funding in soda ash-producing communities
From the article it's hard to tell if this is a sugar-coated poison pill or if this proposed legislation is actually intended to help local schools.
In turn, Rep. Cook sponsored the Soda Ash Funding for Education (SAFE) Act, H.R. 8728, which would redirect federal funds to establish a Soda Ash Education Equalization Fund to provide grants to local schools that could be impacted by these changes.

New Industry Coming To Trona
There's been talk about the plant at the end of Nadeau Road in Panamint Valley for some time. It looks like things are happening.
PVL Limestone, Inc. is also pleased to announce it will be entering the bright white limestone markets in Southern California. With development of its Helder Wit deposit it will provide one of the highest quality available sources of this product with over 100 years of supply.
