Trona MAC endorses sewer-fee hike with 5-0 vote
Glad I have a septic system! It don't pay to be connected to a system of tubes filled with other people's crap! And I can't see paying extra for the privilege! It's like flushing money down the crapper!
:flush:
A proposed 12-percent sewer-fee hike came one step closer to reality Monday when the Trona Municipal Advisory Council voted 5-0 to endorse the proposed hike. If the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approve the increase, Trona residents will pay $40.59 a month, up from the current $36.24 a month.

Photo prompts strong response from Taco Bell :ack:
They claim that the shells were on the way to the trash when the picture was snapped and that this guy was just being silly. I'm just wondering whether those were regular taco shells or if they were those new Doritos shells.
The photo was posted on Taco Bell's Facebook page by an account registered under the name "Jj O'Brien Nolan." The photo itself is undated but suggested that it had been snapped in Ridgecrest.

I'm pretty sure that this licking stuff is just the tip of the ice berg. This video tells the true story:

Ridgecrest Taco Bell Shell Licking Photo Goes Viral

Postby surfsteve » Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:29 pm

Thumbnail Image

A picture snapped by a Taco Bell worker in Kern County has a lot of people grossed out. The picture shows an employee licking a stack of taco shells. The employee apparently did it at the location in Ridgecrest, which is just east of Bakersfield, then posted the picture on Facebook.

Make Trona great again!

Trona Library combines reading and swimming for summer fun
Most people probably are aware of this program, but this article does provide a few details that might be worth sharing!
The library in Trona is offering a couple of cool ways to beat the heat this summer. One is its Summer Reading Program - read and earn a swim ticket for the Trona Community Pool - its that simple. Readers, from kids to adults and in-between, get a swim ticket for signing up for the program as well.

Council approves Petroglyph Festival as 2014 signature event
Rock art capital of the world? Probably not literally, but this area is a hot spot from what I've heard.
:thumb:
“They are very excited about this event and labeling Ridgecrest as the Petroglyph Capitol of North America,” he said. “It's not just a signature event, it's labeling Ridgecrest for what we really are. We're a rock art capitol.” Brokke added that there is a strong consideration for renaming the LeRoy Jackson Park expansion at China Lake Boulevard and French Avenue as Petroglyph Park. “It may have things like shamans and boulders with petroglyph examples carved into them, so the park will be a showcase of such things,” Brokke said. “I think that's awesome.”

72nd Annual Trona Gem-O-Rama
October is probably the busiest month in Trona with the gem and mineral show and homecoming. More people visit the town in October than during any other month I'd be willing to bet.
:4x4:
Gem-O-Rama 2013, the 72th annual gem and mineral show of the Searles Lake Gem and Mineral Society will be held in Trona on the weekend of October 12 and 13. This show is the only time Searles Valley Minerals Inc. opens their dry lake to allow collecting of its unique saline minerals.
