Burning Man’s makeshift city has a big bug problem: ‘They’re everywhere’ I'm not sure if these are the same bugs people are complaining about in Trona and Ridgecrest, but whatever they are they may potentially interfere with the festivities scheduled to take place in the Black Rock Desert up by Reno beginning around the end of this month.
Burning Man doesn't begin for at least a week, but already Nevada's desert city has its share of happy campers — an infestation of bugs. Swarms of tiny, stinky bugs are hassling construction crews at Black Rock City, taking over what will be the event’s commissary tent and depot. State entomologist Jeff Knight believes Burning Man’s towering lights are to blame for attracting what appears to be large populations of false blister beetles, false chinch bugs and stink bugs.
Last year rain this year bugs. Gotta love mother nature

What is Burning Man? Basically it's like a Boy Scout Jamboree only instead of pushing quasi-military values, it's more of an counter-cultural artsy-fartsy affair.

BoraxBill: That's about the way I look at it too except most of the people going there are affluent hipster types. Very few tents and a bunch of RVs instead. You know, the kind of people who got plenty of money and leisure time, but want to associate with the artsy-fartsy crowd.

Is Burning Man Being Taken Over By Police? Looks like the cops are out to make some money by giving out as many tickets as possible.
Burning Man may be taken over by police this year as Nevada Sheriff Jerry Allen promised a crackdown on nonviolent “crime” at the music and arts festival next week. Allen is partnering with festival organizers to patrol the event and said that officers are determined to write as many tickets and make as many arrests as they possibly can. Is the Nevada Sheriff’s Department turning Burning Man into a police state?

Burning Man: A reporter's final thoughts It's all over until next year. I can't make up my mind whether the positives outweigh the negatives or vice versa.

Burn Trials- Out of the Maze and onto the Playa Apparently Burning Man is threatening a lawsuit against Quiznos for this rather funny parody.
But the latest move by Burning Man is really crazy. Just as this year's festival was ending last week, the sandwich chain Quizno's (long known for their amusing internet-ready commercials), released a pretty funny commercial mocking the commercialization of Burning Man in a way that pokes almost as much fun at Quizno's itself as it does at Burning Man. It does, certainly, mock the event for becoming pretty commercialized and "a place for rich people to check off their bucket list."
