Puff Daddy Is Opening a Charter School

BCSD approves new superintendent contract
BCSD may be the third largest K-8 district in the state, but that's not the most common configuration. They wouldn't even make the top twenty-five list for K-12 districts. Here are the top five:
1) Los Angeles Unified 646K
2) San Diego Unified 129K
3) Long Beach Unified 79K
4) Fresno Unified 73K
5) Elk Grove Unified 62K

Right-wing was trying to 'destroy unions' - Unionist on SCOTUS ruling
Unions protect workers from all sorts of things. They look out for the welfare of members and although not everything they do makes sense, it's better to have a union than not to have one. Employers are always looking for ways to sidestep the law and without backing individuals do not have the resources to hold dishonest bosses accountable.

Supreme Court Vacancy Gives Unions A Big Win
A tie resulted in the supreme court because one of the judges died and so the previous ruling is the one they go by. I had no idea that this is how it works. Why don't they just wait until a new judge is appointed so they don't have to have a tie?

I'm sorry, but I get a weird Michael Jackson vibe from this news story. I predict a child molestation scandal involving Puff Daddy within the next few years. I suppose he can do more than threaten to kill the bunny, but even MJ with the million dollar payoffs wound up in criminal court, so I expect that's where Puff Daddy will be eventually sooner or even sooner.

School board recalls
A friend living in a town near Bakersfield said that there is talk of a board member recall there. We both agreed that most of the time dissatisfaction over the performance of a board member never results in a recall effort, but that more often than not it should. I've heard more than a few negative comments about board members in Trona and Ridgecrest, but no signs of any kind of recall effort. Board members need to be held accountable more often, otherwise they tend to abuse their power in one way or another.
The scope of a school board recall can be limited if state law requires sufficient reason to hold a recall election. States such as Alaska, Georgia, and Kansas require grounds for removal, which can include abuse of power, malfeasance, or failure to perform prescribed duties. These laws contrast with states like California and Nevada that do not require any grounds for recall.

CrustyOldFart: Definitely something weird going on there and million dollar payoffs are likely one way or the other. Whether he really does something or whether he or a staff member is falsely accused, money attracts shysters like manure attracts flies.

Middle school teacher's 'privilege' form shocks parents
I could see this as being appropriate in a high school social science class, but not in a middle school Spanish class. There's a time and a place for everything and when you choose the wrong time and the wrong place, your judgement might be called into question. If the principal of this teacher is an SJW type, then she's probably in not too much trouble, but otherwise she might be in for a rough ride, although it's doubtful she'll actually lose her job, although that is a possibility.

wildrose: She probably shouldn't get fired, but she should stick to teaching what she's supposed to teach and think more carefully about what's appropriate to share with her class. Religious people aren't supposed to push their religion on kids and it's not right for a teacher to talk about these kinds of issues except for in certain kinds of classes where it would be approprite.

Consortium awarded $2.6M grant
It's hard to say what Trona's share of this money will be, but something is better than nothing when it comes to funding.
The grant was co-authored by each school district in the consortium, as a collaborative effort to expand career technical education programs in the region. The Desert Mountain Consortium is made up of Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victor Valley Union High, Lucerne Valley, Snow Line, Barstow, Silver Valley and Trona school districts.
