wildrose: Four day work week for schools is a bad idea. Kids are better off with five regular days than with four long days. The school day is kind of long for kids as it is without dragging it out even more. Also just like you say the daycare issue on that day off each week would be a hassle for working parents.

panamint_patty: The five-day work week has worked pretty well for quite some time and I see nothing wrong with sticking with it. If parents work five days and kids work five days, then things work out pretty nicely. No reason to change. If it ain't broke, don't try fixing it!

If High School and College Textbooks Were Honest
Undoubtedly true and hardly a bit of exaggeration. One of the many reasons I'm a Ron Paul fan.

New Mexico bans 'lunch shaming'
This is probably good policy since the kids themselves can't help it if their parents spend all the money on drugs... :roll2:

Lunch Shaming: Better yet, just give all kids free lunch so that no kid goes hungry and so that all kids feel like equals at lunchtime. Feeding programs are a good use of money. Not only do they ensure that every kid gets at least one good meal each day of the work week, but it probably also boosts their classroom productivity.

YES FREE LUNCH: Providing free lunch and breakfast to kids is a great idea. I think that the increased productivity of the kids would be more than worth the expense. We waste a lot of money in this country on worthless things. It seems crazy not to help kids with a few nutritious meals each week.

There is no Free Lunch!

I like the idea of having the kids work for their lunch rather than getting it free. At least the parents kids will know the value of working as opposed to getting something free. There is no free lunch. Somebody has to pay for it. Some say that it's humiliating having the kids work around the school for their lunch. How is it any less than giving it to them free because their parents are losers? I think students that can afford lunch should also be rewarded with the opportunity of being allowed to work for a free lunch to donate to someone who can't afford one. That would show the less fortunate ones that there is no shame in working and teach all students value and economics rather than allowing them to think that the lunches are free and just fall out of the sky. Also it's unfair that someone's mom has to work for minimum wage at Subway to pay for someone's lunch who's parents are too lazy or too unfortunate to find work.

My Teachers
Some teachers are very good at what they do and others not so much. However, sometimes a teacher you think is not so great is a teacher that someone you know considers one of the best he or she ever had. It's funny how that works. Ultimately it's true that even the best teacher can't make you learn if you're not willing to work hard and even the most apathetic teacher can't stop you if you really want to learn.

shadylady: It's true that different people learn better from different teachers. It's not a one size fits all world and so there is no such thing as a perfect or ideal teacher. Some people learn best from highly organized teachers and some people are driven crazy by OCD types. Everyone is different and that's why there is no real science when it comes to teaching. It's an art.

Sacramento teacher records rat running through classroom
And by rat we're talking about a rodent, not a derogatory term for a student!
