TJUSD Board Meeting - October 19, 2017

Postby blackturtle.us » Fri Oct 20, 2017 4:04 pm

Community members were present for the first part of this meeting, but the only people staying for the entire meeting were school employees and a representative of a company called OnPoint, more on that coming up.

1) Student Representative - The student updated the school board on various events and also mentioned that students have many complaints about the condition of the student restrooms. Old toilet seats were specifically mentioned. Also the student stated that some students feel that the weight room equipment needs updating and that there is a petition to add men's volleyball to the list of sports offered at the high school.
2) During the time allocated for board member comments, one of the board members talked a little about a Take-A-Book/Leave-A-Book booth recently installed in the Pioneer Point area of town. She says that it has received a fair number of visitors already.
3) Trona Teachers Association Report - Two teachers were present to report to the board. Discussed were recent teacher training events with a special focus on technology training. Training from OnPoint was mentioned specifically and characterized as sub-optimal, although it was stated that the equipment installed by the company received a lot of use and was appreciated.
4) Superintendent's Report - Keith Tomes mentioned the presence of Kevin Mulligan, CEO of OnPoint. He also talked some about the grand re-opening of the HS library, which has recently been modernized. Additionally, there was discussion regarding delays in the installation of several items ordered through OnPoint. Mulligan explained to the board that he had done his best to ensure that all equipment was installed in a timely manner, but that many of the items were delayed due to manufacturers being unable to deliver several items as quickly as expected. A more lengthy discussion regarding teacher training provided by OnPoint took place with lots of helpful ideas being discussed.
5) High School Alternative Education Ideas - High School Principal Joseph Wolfe discussed some measures being taken to deal with several students who have been disruptive to the educational process at the high school. The state has recently enacted legislation which reduces the number of options available to schools to deal with disruptive students and Wolfe presented to the board some options which might help the school district to deal with such students. Among the ideas were Saturday School, expanding Independent Study, Continuation School, Community Day School, and a couple other options. Key to many of the options would be the hiring of additional personnel. Also discussed by Wolfe were ideas for expanding Career Training offerings including classes in welding, agriculture, industrial arts, and electronics.
6) Later in the meeting the employment of several individuals was approved. Also the board gave the go ahead for the administration to advertise for an Alternative Education Teacher.
NEXT MEETING: November 8

California is Liberal Lunatic Wasteland Beyond Saving
This is happening in public libraries here in California! What's next, the same kind of thing at elementary schools? This is outrageous and completely insane!

Some schools cancel Halloween to be more inclusive
I don't have an issue with not celebrating holidays at school since school time should be productive work time. On the other hand, I'm not in support of the notion that we should ban certain Halloween costumes since a small group of people find certain costumes to be offensive. Creativity should not in any way be stifled by political correctness!

Pervert Lesson with Ms. Adler :wtf:
They say that you can never be too cautious. Well, that's not exactly true, but it is possible to be too stupid!

Boy Who Dresses Drag Gets Surprise From Hero, Bob the Drag Queen
Resist the urge to grab your shotgun if a couple of these show up at your door Halloween Night. Here in California they have more protections than an animal on the endangered species list!

JULIAN SMITH - I'm Reading a Book
Kids should be enthusiastic readers, but this might be taking it a little too far. Genius end to this video.
