Sir Roger Scruton on Lady Gaga This guy nails it. Listen carefully and think about what he says.

recluse: Scruton does a good job making his point, but I think I disagree that it's possible to say that songs can be objectively better than each other. There's no accounting for taste because taste is subjective. Objectively speaking, songs may be more complex than one another, but complex often does not mean better. When it comes to Heartbreak Hotel versus Poker Face, my opinion is that they are both equally mediocre. Neither is horrible, but neither is horribly good!

MojaveMike and recluse: I agree with most of what Scruton has to say, but like MojaveMike says complexity does not make a song good. Often the KISS principle applies. Keep It Simple Stupid!

The KISS principle applies to a lot of things, but I gotta say that I like a bunch of songs by Kiss much better than anything by Elvis or Lady Gaga! Kiss Kicked Ass!

I've never been impressed by the likes of Elvis Presley, ELO, Kiss, or the insipid Lady Gaga. Skilled musicians often produce musical trash and mediocre musicians sometimes produce musical miracles. There's more to art than being highly skilled. What that is may not be easily understood, but that's where the discussion goes awry. Bach is not better than Lady Gaga. His music may be preferable in certain respects, but aesthetics is not a science and should not be approached in that fashion.

MEATLESS MONDAYS: Coming Soon To A School Near You! Actually going veggie one day a week may help kids experience new food choices and learn a little about nutrition along the way.

Where I used to work we had MEATLESS MONDAYS every week. After a HARD weekend we needed a day off!

shadylady: People need to know that what you're talking about is perfectly legal in Nevada and so no laws were broken. And it makes perfect sense that after working all weekend that a day of rest would be necessary. Peace.

shadylady: How could you? Think of the children!!! LOL
But seriously, it's always a good thing to take at least one day each week off from meat one way or the other!
