No money should be spent keeping Trona alive. Trona is beyond the point of no return. Some of the old-timers who still live in Trona act as if Trona can be revived. It's too late for that. Those of us who lived there a couple decades ago and who have seen what Trona has become realize that it's too far gone to save. The state should waste absolutely no money on the town. It's just a slum now in the middle of the desert and it ain't going to improve no matter how much money is wasted on it.
That lady in that video needs to realize that she's not helping the kids by keeping Trona High School open. They'd be better off being bused to Ridgecrest. She says that "those kids still needed their school." No! She needs the kids to go to the school to keep her memories of the past alive. She talks as if she's helping the kids, but what she's really doing is holding them back. She's using them for her own emotional gratification.
BoraxBill: There's no way that school board member lady in that video is not on Prozac or some other anti-depressant. She's way too enthusiastic and completely out of her mind. It's like her neurotic desire for the high school to be re-built is so strong that she's completely oblivious to what would be best for the kids. Close the high school in Trona and bus the kids to Ridgecrest. It saves money and it gives the kids a better educational experience!
More info about anti-depressants here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antidepressant The list is pretty long. If anyone can figure out which one the school board lady is on, please do tell!
I posted this fun video about anti-depressants awhile back:
Church Chat: Dennis Hopper - SNL That School Board Lady sure does remind me of the Church Lady! Not only do they look a bit alike, but they have very similar attitudes.
desertrat: The School Board Lady might be a little bit more smug than the Church Lady, but they are like two peas in a pod. I think the word is doppelgangers.
