That's a very valid point. Knowledge is power and there's nothing about sex which is all that baffling or complicated. Some people are overly emotional about lots of things and that can be complicated and baffling, but that's just baggage which dysfunctional people bring to the table. Separating the facts from the bullshit seems to be what we spend a lot of time doing and it's only gotten worse in recent years.

Voyeuristic Beastiality: People Who Like To Watch Animals Having Sex
Many parents keep pets in the home as a way to help kids learn about sex. The idea is that the pets will engage in sexual behaviors and the kids will learn about the mechanics of sex and how reproduction works in the process. The problem is that sometimes a fascination with animals having sex develops. This falls into the category of unintended consequences, but it's a good example of how good intentions sometimes go astray. Exactly what percentage of the population develops this hangup is hard to say, but some are bound to want to do more than just watch. Some would say people having sex with animals is a victimless crime and other would all for incarcerating people who engage in such behavior. It would be interesting to know how PETA members feel on this topic.

Zoophilia: More Widespread Than You Might Think
drdesert: Speaking of unintended consequences, you opened a rather large can of worms with your post and there are a lot of possible directions we could go. The world of sex is expansive and the list of subtopics which could be discussed quite lengthy. Here's an interesting quote to consider:
The Kinsey reports rated the percentage of people who had sexual interaction with animals at some point in their lives as 8% for men and 3.6% for women, and claimed it was 40–50% in people living near farms.

And the various subcategories of bestiality include: Human-animal role-players, Romantic zoophiles, Zoophilic fantasizers,Tactile zoophiles, Fetishistic zoophiles, Sadistic bestials, Opportunistic zoophiles, Regular zoophiles, and Exclusive zoophiles.

Also consider the fact that zoophilia is not forbidden in many other cultures:
Bestiality was accepted in some North American and Middle Eastern indigenous cultures. Sexual intercourse between humans and non-human animals was not uncommon among certain Native American indigenous peoples, including the Hopi. Voget describes the sexual lives of young Native Americans as "rather inclusive", including bestiality. In addition, the Copper Inuit people had "no aversion to intercourse with live animals".

Take a look at this web page for some historic artwork depicting bestiality.

ziggy: That's a really good video! I'm not sure at what age that would become appropriate, but it brings up quite a few interesting issues. In particular, I think the connection between cultural imperialism and sex is worth further discussion. In a post by shadylady it was stated that "the sexual lives of young Native Americans was 'rather inclusive'" and I've heard quite a bit on that topic. Although the sexual practices of various tribes varied greatly, in many cases there were no age boundaries or gender boundaries as we know them in our culture. Few things were forbidden or considered shameful. If people are forced to change one part of their culture, then other aspects of their culture collapse like a row of dominoes. It's all intertwined and interrelated.

Sex is an interesting topic and open-minded people can have fascinating conversations on the topic, but I think for kids the main thing is to give them enough information so that they can avoid sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Going beyond that might call into question traditional values and that's when people get upset. However, kids are curious and they want to have those discussions. This is threatening to some parents.

NO NUT NOVEMBER - Official Music Video
Today this showed up in the recommended videos on YouTube. I never heard of this before. It would probably be a good challenge for high school boys. I doubt any of them would make it more than a week!

Masturbation is a "touchy" subject and it would be difficult to have a serious discussion about it with teenagers or even preteens. Parents are usually uncomfortable with that sort of thing and the same goes for educators. And even if you talk about it, what do you say? There are so many ways that different groups of people might take offense. I suppose that the discussion could be legalistic with a focus on laws pertaining to sexual behavior and indecent exposure, but that might make the kids feel like they're being accused of a crime or something. A productive discussion on the topic of masturbation might be difficult at the very least.

Joe Rogan on NoFap
This is a surprisingly nuanced discussion of the topic of masturbation.
