July 13th Board Meeting part 2
Based on the agenda provided in the YouTube video description, this is actually the July 15th Regular Board Meeting and so it appears that the title provided on YouTube is incorrect.
1) Alumni Association would like to preserve the rose garden area as a museum.
2) Trona Care returning to active status. A meeting will be held and the intention is to plan a community cleanup event.
3) Superintendent Report - Talked about summer school. General comments about the 2020-2021 school year.
4) Maintenance Update - Elementary library will be moved to B-wing. Construction design process for new high school moving forward.
5) Principal's Report - Talked about summer school in a little more detail. ASB meetings throughout summer and planning to open a student store for the high school. Talked a lot about things going on at the high school.
6) Several job applicants approved for various jobs.
7) Substitute Pay Rates - Bus Driver $20, Custodian $17, Sub Teacher $100 for half day and $175 for full day.
8) High School Class Schedule approved.

Homeschooling Is On The Rise
Homeschoolers tend to outperform kids who go to public schools mostly because their parents value education and don't want to just send their kids to school for free babysitting. Also public schools tend to be dangerous since the children of low-lives tend to attend public schools. Not only that, but kids can pick up bad habits by associating with kids from that kind of a background. Many parents send their kids to private schools in order to avoid these issues, but that can be expensive. Homeschooling is much more affordable and if a pod system is worked out with other parents, then it becomes even more manageable.

Thinking Of Starting A Learning Pod? Experts Say Parents Should Understand Legal Liability First
California makes it hard to homeschool, but a recent Supreme Court decision may change that. The best way to do this is for a group of parents to just share the work and not pay anyone.

I posted this to the last board meeting thread and would like to repost it again in hopes of getting some thoughts from others:
panamint_patty wrote:TJUSD's non-discrimination policy lists the following protected categories:
based on a person’s actual or perceived age, ancestry, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, immigration status, marital status, medical information, national origin, parental status, pregnancy status, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

Most non-discrimination policies are a little different:
based on race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status such as disability, age, marital and family status, sexual orientation and gender identity, health status, place of residence, economic and social situation.

Conspicuously absent is POLITICAL OR OTHER OPINION. How odd is this? Does this allow for discrimination against those who object to the liberal agenda? Or against those who criticize the liberal agenda?

panamint_patty: Non-Discrimination Policies are good to have, but ultimately they don't really matter. It's not lawful to discriminate based on a myriad of traits or factors regardless of what an organization's policy may or may not list. Basically, a non-discrimination policy is an acknowledgement that an organization is aware that it is not lawful to discriminate against individuals or to treat individuals in an unfair manner. An organization cannot pick and choose what traits and factors it wishes to include or exclude. It's accountable for all of them, like it or not.

Some extra information should be provided about this issue which the public has the right to know and which is a matter of public record. The Athletic Director (AD) job was advertised in late spring. Only one person applied and that was the person who has served as AD for over ten years. According to the contract between the TTA and TJUSD, there should have been no issue and that person should have automatically been approved for the job since he has done an outstanding job as AD for quite some time. HOWEVER, the board decided that they needed to alter the job description after the fact and then re-advertise the job. There is little doubt that this move is illegal. At this point they must hire the only candidate who applied for the job under the old job description and any changes to the job description can only take effect in subsequent years. The exception to this would be if a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) were negotiated which is acceptable to the job candidate. Otherwise, the district has almost certainly violated the law and at the very least behaved in an extremely unethical manner, demonstrating an egregious lack of integrity. Very few organizations would even consider pulling a stunt like this and it's hard to imagine how anyone could think they could get away with treating a faithful employee in such a shameful manner.

blackturtle.us: So, you are saying that the following sequence of events occurred:
1) Job advertised.
2) Only one person applied and this person was fully qualified.
3) Employer decided to change job description and re-advertise job despite this being a contractual violation.
Only a completely dysfunctional organization would conduct business in this manner and if this isn't illegal it damn well should be! If you're going to change a job description you do it BEFORE advertising. That's just basic logic and to do otherwise is just plain STUPID!
