Any teacher who doesn't take advantage of materials available on YouTube is a complete idiot, moron, mental midget, and/or dummkopf! There are superintendents and school board members who get kickbacks for using unnecessarily expensive online platforms and so there is push back against YouTube since it's free, but the reality of what is available on YouTube is undeniable.
I reckon ninety-five to ninety-nine percent of the things you pay hundreds of dollars for on learning sites you can get from YouTube for free.
Another problem is that educators in general are not very tech savvy and so they tend to prefer to pay inflated prices for a package deal rather than do the work to put things together on their own. What we wind up with are zombie educators who just read from scripts and show pre-packaged lessons to their classes. Out the door goes creativity, spontaneity and true learning and what we wind up with is a one-size fits all kind of educational experience perfect for creating mindless drones who will believe whatever the mainstream media tells them to believe!
