tronagirl: The upside of lots of weeds is lots of wildflowers out in the desert. Maybe you can borrow someone's goat to take care of the weeds. Goats will eat anything, right? LOL

panamint_patty: Now there's a business idea to consider: renting goats to clear out weeds! I wonder how good of a job a goat would do clearing an area of weeds... I suppose it depends on how hungry it is! LOL

The only goat I would trust in my yard is a Billy Goat.

Although spring technically begins around March 21st or so, here in the Trona area I'd put the date in early to mid February. Although it's still chilly at night, once we get past the last frost, it's growing season! However, after the end of May it gets pretty hard to grow most plants and so my philosophy is to get started early and make the most of the good growing months!

panamint_patty: Looks like the official first day of spring is just a few days away. As far as the flowers are concerned it's been spring for about a month! It's nice to see so many flowers blooming. It almost seems like the drought is over, but the reality is that we haven't really gotten enough rain to be able to consider the drought over.

The end of summer is approaching and so it's time to start thinking about garden projects for the fall. I'm going to clear out old growth and plant a few shrubs this year. I'm looking for some shrubs that can get by with very little water, but which still produce nice flowers and which are generally attractive. Any ideas or suggestions?

Both Walmart and Home Depot have lots of bulbs for sale. Plant them now and they'll come up in the spring. I especially enjoy the daffodils, but everyone has a favorite.
