Nighttime lows have not been too severe this year. I think the lowest it's gotten is about 27 degrees. Most plants can survive at that temperature. On the positive side the days are getting longer and things will begin warming up in a few weeks. If you like it cold, enjoy it while you can!

Yes, it's cold this year, but nothing out of the ordinary. No hard freezes, just thin layers of ice is all I've seen this year. I haven't seen any plant damage either.

Growing Chionodoxa forbesii / Scilla forbesii / Glory-of-the-snow
This plant is supposed to survive down to -30° F and it is supposed to do pretty well in warmer areas too. Might be worth a try.

What are the differences in Lavender?
English lavender can survive down to -20 °F. Spanish and French down to -15 °F. English lavender likes alkaline soil more than do Spanish and French. All of them can do well without much water.

tronagirl: Impressive list of plants. Those are some hardy and attractive plants and now it's just a matter of finding a place where they can be purchased, which may be more difficult than it should be.

tronagirl: I'll second what twister said. That was an excellent video and an interesting list of plants.
