Gay Feathers, Blazing Star (Liatris Spicata) - In Blooms - July 15
This plant is supposed to do well at higher elevations. I've seen it in Colorado and it does well there.

Liatris spicata - Gayfeather or Blazing Star - Growing Liatris
This plant needs lots of sun and pretty good amount of moisture.
