That's especially true when we're talking protein supplements. They claim one thing, but the reality is something entirely different. Cheap knockoffs presented as if they're the latest and greatest is something we need to watch out for when it comes to supplements and various health-related products. So if this Life Extension company works with legitimate research institutions, then it might be worth paying more for their products.

In theory that is true though for the most part most supplement companies sell what they advertise even though most supplements are based mostly on hype. If you order a bottle of garbage don't complain when they send you a bottle of garbage. Placebos are highly under rated anyway in my view, so just the fact that someone is doing something is going to make a huge difference than if they merely gave up.

FDA Approved Placebo for Prescription

FDA Approved Placebo for Prescription

After more than four decades of testing in tandem with other drugs, placebo gained approval for prescript-xion use from the Food and Drug Administration Sep 15, 03.

In its most common form, placebo is a white, crystalline substance of a sandy consistency, obtained from the evaporated juice of the Saccharum officinarum plant. The FDA has approved placebo in doses ranging from 1 to 40,000 milligrams. The long-awaited approval will allow pharmaceutical companies to market placebo in pill and liquid form. Eleven major drug companies have developed placebo tablets, the first of which, AstraZeneca's Sucrosa, hits shelves Sept. 24.

Pain-sufferers like Margerite Kohler, who participated in a Sucrosa study in March, welcomed the FDA's approval. Researchers diagnosed Kohler with Random Occasional Nonspecific Pain and Discomfort Disorder (RONPDD), a minor but surprisingly pervasive medical condition that strikes otherwise healthy adults. RONPDD is only one of many disorders for which placebo has proven effective, Bergen said.

"Placebo has been successful in the treatment of everything from lower-back pain to erectile dysfunction to nausea," Bergen said. "That's the beauty, and the mystery, of placebo. It's all-purpose. Think of it like aspirin, but without any of the analgesic properties."

The FDA is expected to approve the drug for a wide range of mood disorders later this year. According to Bergen, initial research has shown placebo to be effective in the treatment of bipolar disorder, depression, dysthymia, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and stress.

As industry analysts predict the drug's sales will top $25 billion in the first year, the approval of placebo is expected to unleash one of the pharmaceutical industry's biggest marketing battles to date.

1st clinical trial set for ‘anti-aging compound’
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (or NMN, for short) seems to possibly have anti-aging properties...
Keio University and Washington University in St. Louis plan to begin a joint clinical study in Japan to test the safety and effectiveness in humans of a compound that is gradually being proved to retard the aging process in animals, scientists have said. Keio University’s Research Ethics Committee will check the appropriateness of the plan and other factors. If approved, researchers plan to begin giving the compound — nicotinamide mononucleotide (see below) or NMN — to about 10 healthy people to confirm its safety. They will then examine whether NMN can improve functions of the human body. The planned clinical study will use NMN by treating it as food. If it is found to be safe for humans and has any benefits, NMN will likely be distributed as a product similar to “food with functional claims.”

Hormone injection lets ageing muscles run harder and longer
Another substance which shows some promise:
The team found that in both mice and humans, physical exercise significantly increases the level of osteocalcin in the blood. The release of this hormone increases the availability of two primary fuels, glucose and fatty acids, to the muscles. Osteocalcin gives the muscles an extra kick by promoting fuel uptake as well as boosting the muscles’ ability to break down that fuel to use as energy, making it easier to run longer and harder, says Karsenty. They found that osteocalcin levels gradually decrease in men and women as they age, flatlining at ages 50 and 30, respectively.

Dogs Test Drug Aimed at Humans’ Biggest Killer: Age
What about extending the lifespan of your pet?
But scientists who champion the study of aging’s basic biology — they call it “geroscience” — say their field has received short shrift from the biomedical establishment. And it was not lost on the University of Washington researchers that exposing dog lovers to the idea that aging could be delayed might generate popular support in addition to new data.

The Anti-Aging Pill
A couple anti-aging substances mentioned in this article:
The company, Elysium Health, says it will be turning chemicals that lengthen the lives of mice and worms in the laboratory into over-the-counter vitamin pills that people can take to combat aging. The problem, Guarente says, is that it’s nearly impossible to prove, in any reasonable time frame, that drugs that extend the lifespan of animals can do the same in people; such an experiment could take decades. That’s why Guarente says he decided to take the unconventional route of packaging cutting-edge lab research as so-called nutraceuticals, which don’t require clinical trials or approval by the FDA.
