surfsteve: It makes sense that there would be an inverse correlation between depression and general health. That does seem like a no brainer and so anything that has a negative effect on general health is likely to increase the probability that someone might suffer from depression. Whether it's loss of mobility, inflammation of the brain, fatigue, something like valley fever, or any of a long list of diverse ailments, all are likely to increase the chances of depression. As for foods, I expect that different people have different sensitivities or even allergies that could trigger a number of health problems which might produce depression as a side effect.

New study links common meds with dementia
The list includes quite a few common medications. So, don't take anything unless it's absolutely necessary!

Common medications increase dementia risk
It's probably always best to not take medication unless absolutely necessary.

Dementia is preventable through lifestyle
I think this guy consumes too much protein, but other than that he's probably on track. He recommends lots of green leafy vegetables, olive oil, and avocados. He says people should avoid grains, sweet or starchy fruits, and sugar in general. He talks about inflammation quite a bit and the importance of aerobic exercise.
