This was posted under Board Info/Copyright Law, but it fits here even better.

mrgreen: Good call. I posted this under the Copyright Law thread as you state, but it really deserves it's own thread. I'm glad you took the initiative to post it here. The more people who voice support for fair use, the better!

I'd get a WTFU bumper sticker, but I'm not sure if someone might be offended!

Corporations don't like fair use. They want to have absolute control over content and sometimes they even want to be able to claim that something which is vaguely similar to something that they own is a copyright infrigement. Anyone who supports freedom of speech also supports fair use. Otherwise how do we criticize and discuss ideas expressed in books, articles, etc.?

We're Getting Banned Off YouTube - Copyright Rant
Some of the examples of copyright takedowns on YouTube are bizarre! What kind of system allows takedowns without any evidence that the copyright claim is valid?

mrgreen: I've heard quite a few ridiculous horror stories about inconsistencies on YouTube. There seems to be no strong guidelines for staff there to differentiate between what is and what isn't fair use. I know they try to automate things as much as possible to keep costs down, but there needs to be strong fair use protections in place to protect people from copyright trolls who want to shut down fair use.

TED deceptively silence their critics (again)!
Fair Use provisions of copyright law are pretty simple and easy to understand and yet organizations like TED still try to bully content creators with bluffs such as the two described in this video.
