Makes sense with our alkaline soil that it would be good out here however I am highly dubious about how well vinegar would work for keeping out pests. I think borax would work much better for ants. I used to use Amdro for ants. A little of that stuff goes a long way. So glad they don't have fire ants around here though I'm also very surprised. We had them all over Florida. They were very smart. If you poured Amdro on their nest they would recognize it as poison and carry it off and only a few of them would die. But if you scattered it in the general area away from the nest they would forage and bring it back and share it with the others as if it were some kind of drug which would wipe out the whole colony.
Make Trona great again!
