Do they do well when the weather gets hot? I kind of like them and there are a lot of neat flower colors available. Any info will be appreciated!

I don't know the answer, but here's a THIRTEEN SECOND video from a gardener in Arizona who has something to say on the issue:

Weeds? I won't use any kind of herbicide in my yard. Like James Sel says the weeds aren't nearly as bad as the poison they use to kill them. There are times when chemicals are necessary, but controlling weeds is not important enough job to justify their use.

Anyone know when I should plant some annuals for a little fall color? I would like to plant some marigolds, sweet peas, and a couple other annuals so that they bloom late October to early November. It seems like it's still a little too hot to plant seeds at this time though. Any suggestions?

This is a good time to plant a few annuals for the fall growing season. Even if it's just some radishes and some marigolds in a small corner of the yard, it's something to add a little green. Also the fall is a great time to plant flower bulbs for a spectacular spring bloom! While you're at it don't forget to fertilize the trees!

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Home Depot Commercial
Don't take your spouse with you when you go shopping for garden supplies. At first there's some stuff about robots at Lowes, but then there's the part about the couple fighting in Home Depot. You might say that this doesn't count as a garden tip, but you gotta go shopping to buy garden supplies and if you wind up in a big fight while shopping for garden supplies then you'll wish you took this tip more seriously!

CactusHugger: Been there done that! Actually I haven't had too many fights with my wife that even got to the point where we were mad at each other for very long and I certainly don't have a problem with viewing any kind of porn, but we have had some disagreements over home projects. Mostly inside stuff, but over the years there have been some disagreements about what to do with parts of the yard. Nice post!

It's time to get serious about freezing nighttime temperatures. Make sure that your coolers are drained and that your outside water spigots are covered. Also put mulch over any plants that need special protection from the cold. The good thing is that around here cold weather doesn't last long. The bad thing is that there's enough cold to kill certain plants and so a little extra effort might keep a plant alive that would otherwise freeze!

The weeds might be pretty bad this year. The last three years with the drought there weren't many weeds, but things are already looking wetter this year and so if the trend continues I predict lots and lots of weeds. So be prepared for some serious weeding during March and April!
