How Does The FBI Know North Korea Hacked Sony? :smack:
This is pretty weak! Very unlikely that sophisticated hackers would make a mistake like that and even more unlikely that hackers launching a cyberattack on behalf of a country would do anything like this. So, I'm calling BULLSHIT on this weak attempt being made by the FBI to cover its ass!

Kaspersky Lab uncovers online spy tools with potential NSA connections
Interesting discussion of what Kaspersky is calling the "Equation Group" and they are thought to be capable of hacks more sophisticated than previously thought possible.

How deterrence is changing, explained by Defense Secretary Ash Carter
This video is full of misinformation. The USA has backed cyber attacks for a long time. Here's a comment which includes a reference to one of the most famous examples.
Fuck you VOX, you talked about Iran's cyber-attack against a Dam in US but failed to mention anything about Stuxnet that US government unleashed against Iran's oil infrastructures and Nuclear establishments. Talking as if everyone doing it is Evil but US. As if you have the right to screw everyone. Fuck you and your one sided BS. Fuck you

Also the Secretary of Defense claims that Russia invented hybrid warfare by using vigilantes and media manipulation to create chaos. This is not at all true. What Russia is trying to do is to emulate these techniques which have been developed and used by the USA for decades. Even before there was the internet the USA was quite good at overthrowing governments through use of media and social manipulation. This has been thoroughly documented by people such as Noam Chomsky and the evidence is irrefutable.

cactuspete: Basically this is a good example of how news organizations kiss ass in order to move up the ladder. Although Vox claims that it is a 'news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what's really driving the events in the headlines' that's not really the case. By being a propaganda tool for the US government, selected btw because it targets young people as it's primary audience, Vox is able to get one-on-one interviews such as the one contained in this faux news information piece.

Our government puts a lot of effort into convincing us that cyberattack threats are major dangers because they want us to not complain as they takes over more and more control of the internet. They want to stamp out anonymity so they can track every little thing every person does. They want to be able to manipulate and control information in order to prevent political and intellectual dissent. The more control over the internet they have the more they can control us sheeple. Already they have far too much control, but they stage outages and hacks in order to convince to give them even more.

Anonymity isn't the cause of online harassment
It's a logical fallacy to suggest that anonymity causes harassment. Although people who harass prefer to remain anonymous, it is the case that there are dozens of other perfectly good reasons for wanting to remain anonymous while online. Consider this analogy...
He compares anonymity to wearing a mask. "People with masks do commit theft," he says. "But when we think about social norms we're asking…'would putting on a mask cause people to become thieves'? If you or I were to put on a mask, or become anonymous online, what would that do to us and the way we treat other people?'"

Russian Intelligence Agents, Hackers Accused of Yahoo Hack
I didn't even realize that Yahoo still existed. I'm surprised that anyone worth hacking has an account there!

ergot: They had faded away into irrelevance as far as I was concerned until I heard about this news story. Maybe the hack is just a publicity stunt to remind the public that Yahoo! is still around. Does anyone have a yahoo.com email account anymore? It's been a long time since I've see one. That's for sure!

Tens of thousands of computers hit by global cyberattack
This is pretty widespread on a global scale. It seems obvious, but if it only infect Windows machines, then why not have some Macs or Chromebooks or Linux machines available. Diversification is a good thing.
